I’m just not ready. period.
The decision was made last week when the deadline to sign up for the test passed.
The dominoes started long before that……
While I feel I did enough reading….I failed to do the memorization required to remember many of the details of the styles such as SRM/IBU/abv
I failed to pass the beer judge certification entrance online exam. This told me that I wasn’t ready for the Certified Cicerone exam.
What’s next?
Studying begins in earnest for the BJCP entrance exam(the one I failed) and the BJCP tasting exam that takes place here in Madison in November.
The window of opportunity to take the Certified Cicerone test opens up again early next year.
Cheers!
I am jealous of your terrific palate, and your general beer knowledge is superb. Studying for BJCP will make a huge difference in filling in the gaps. Focus on the “normal” day-to-day beer styles. Avoid the whalez. Take a list of beers listed in the BJCP style guidelines as Commercial Examples with you whenever you go to a bar or restaurant, and ask the bartender for a flight of beers off of that list, and tell him why you don’t want to know what the beers are until after you have a chance to guess. Write up a BJCP score sheet for at least one beer each week–more would be better. You got this. I can’t wait to welcome you to our ranks!
